Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into an extended family of actors and filmmakers. Both are careers she has herself taken up. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento at the age of nine was her first film. She played the lead role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and also appeared as part of Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. Close Friends, written and directed by Michele Placido in 1992, was where Asia's career took off. As she grew older, playing girls, she shifted to perform more challenging and more mature roles. The movie was well-received at the Cannes International Film Festival. She has made three films with her dad, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome and Phantom of the opera. The Phantom of the Opera marks her third collaboration with her father. The others are Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. After the directing of several music videos she had Anna Lou. The actress starred alongside Jean-Marc Barre as Jean-Marc Barr in The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she starred alongside Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action thriller. Asia can also be the author of a number of short stories published in many high-end magazines.
