Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into an extended family of actors and filmmakers. Both are careers she has herself taken up. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento at the age of nine was her first film. She played the lead role in Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and also appeared as part of Michele Soavi's 1989 feature film The Church. Later in the year, she was Nanni Moretti's daughter Red Wood Pigeon (1989) (also directed by Moretti). Close Friends, written and directed by Michele Placido in 1992, was where Asia's career took off. As she grew older, playing girls, she shifted to perform more challenging and more mature roles. The movie was well-received at the Cannes International Film Festival. She has made three films with her dad, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome and Phantom of the opera. The Phantom of the Opera marks her third collaboration with her father. The others are Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato A Nozze showed Asia's absorption manner that she exhibited in her performing. The year 1993 saw her played Arianna in Carlo Verdone's Perdiamoci di vista. It was a character in which she was so intricate that she earned the David di Donatello prize for best actress. Also, she was a part of the part in the international cast of Queen Margot which was directed by Patrice Chereau. She also appeared alongside Michel Piccoli as Traveling Companion in the film Peter Del Monte. This part earned her the David di Donatello award (for the best actor) as well as an award from Grolla of Oro. Asia took up directing as profession in 1994. Her debut short film was Prospettive. A documentary she wrote about her father followed by Abel/Asia (1998), a film which won an award in the Rome Film Festival and was each directed between 1996 and 1998. Asia was first introduced as a feature-length director with Scarlet Diva (2000). The film featured her as a director. She was also the lead actress and wrote the screenplay. The film was made available globally in the month of May. It was awarded a special prize at the Williamsburg Film festival in Brooklyn. Anna Lou was her first born child in the year 2001. After the directing of several music videos she had Anna Lou. The actress starred alongside Jean-Marc Barre as Jean-Marc Barr in The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she starred alongside Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action thriller. Asia can also be the author of a number of short stories published in many high-end magazines.
